Edgar Degas and Ballet Wedding Inspiration

We recently made a visit to the Chicago Art Institute, and were reminded of the beauty of the Ballet in Edgar Degas’ paintings.  Ballet often reminds us of whimsical, romantic times, both of the past as well as of our dreams of the future.  Ballet’s softness in movement as well as the music that often accompanies ballet inspired us to put together some wedding décor ideas!

Whether you used to dance when you were younger, you enjoy watching a ballet, or enjoy the emotional vulnerability that ballet embraces (as does Love), below are some fantastic Wedding décor ideas:

Ballet pointe shoes are an obvious symbol of ballet, and can be placed around the room as decor, or incorporated into your centerpiece or escort card table.  If the bride or wedding party themselves are dancers, wearing their pointe shoes creates fantastic and unique photos.  If you would like to be a bit more subtle with the ballet influence, beautiful satin ribbons can be used as decor.  They can be threaded into chairs, as well as tied and hung from chairs, light fixtures, or wall ornaments.

The traditional color associated with ballet is the light pastel pink, which is the color used for most ballet pointe shoes.  Pastel colors are not only easy on the eyes, but they create a calming environment for your guests to relax and enjoy the beauty of the love between you and your partner. You can use light-colored linens and flowers, soft lighting, and enchanting classical music to create the most magical and beautiful night of your life!

If you are talented enough to take ballet inspired photos, go for it! Incorporating ballet into your wedding or event can be as subtle as you wish or bold as you can dream! We hope we were able to send you a bit on inspiration as Degas was able to provide for us!

Happy Planning!
